Anxiety Treatment With Drugs

By: Jamie Snodgrass

Anxiety
Do you often find yourself stressed out because of certain misfortunes of the past or uncertainty of future? How frequently do you feel a pang of an unpleasant emotion in anticipation of some ill- defined calamity? If very often it is time for you to realize that you are suffering from some anxiety disorder that causes innumerable psychological and physical tribulations.

How to get help?
Once diagnosed, anxiety can be treated fairly fast. There are many ways of treating anxiety.
Since anxiety a psychologically originated disease, at the primary stage it can be treated through counseling provided by, psychologists, social workers, and counselors. However these counselors should have specialized in behavior therapy or cognitive development or in any such related area.

Anxiety can be cured by cured by prescribed medications. Psychiatrists or physicians usually prescribe anti depressants or anti anxiety drugs that help during the advanced stages of anxiety.

Other ways of treatment are group therapies or combination of all the above. This would mean psychologists and counselors work closely with the physicians and psychiatrists and help the patients.

Anxiety drugs:
While focusing on the second method of treatment, namely intake of prescribed drugs, we must realize certain important facts about drugs prescription.
The physician begins by giving low dose of the drug at first however gradually increases it.

These drugs have side effects; however the body gets accustomed to them over the passage of time.

The dosage is tapered slowly once the doctor feels that the patient is nearing normal state.

Some anxiety drugs:
Some of the anxiety drugs are given below.
Doxepin : is a common drug with regular side effect incase of over dosage. Common side effects like nausea and vomiting

Clomipramine: over dosage can toxicity to the individual.

Amoxipine: it comes along with the general instructions of how to use the drugs and the common side effects.

Ziprasidone: is another kind to monitor anxious behavior.

Moclobemide: this is taken to regulate the mental functioning.

Anxiety Pills
Severe anxiety is unfortunately one item among the unwanted stuff. The more one tries to forget an experience that caused fear or severe discomfort, the stronger the memory of it becomes. When people suffer from recurring panic attacks or from a specific phobia such as that of height, bridges or highways, they usually don't think of a specific memory or thought as the real culprit behind their predicament, but there often is one

Anxiety and pills:
Anxiety is more of a mental and psychological condition which many people feel cannot be cured (like physical ailments) using medicines. But the reality is the fact that anxiety can be controlled using drugs called "tranquilizers" whose basic aim is to relive stress and make the patient feel better and more positive about life. Also known as "chill pills" some drugs can really help the patients a lot. Anticonvulsants like Neurontin and Gabitril for anxiety. Seroquel, which works on schizophrenia and manic depression, also seems to control anxiety and stabilize sleep patterns in low doses. There was a study in which one group of dental-phobic patients was given Geodon, an anti-psychotic, and another group was given Valium before a dental visit. Geodon was just as effective as Valium, but without the sedative effect.

The most popular of these tranquilizers is Valium, which doctors have long prescribed to relieve symptoms of anxiety. The drug is also used to lessen the anxiety, agitation and tremors that occur during alcohol withdrawal.

The results of one study conducted in 1993 showed that valerian and hops are calming to the central nervous system and reduce depression and anxiety. In fact, the herbs were reported to work faster than the prescription drugs. Hops and valerian worked in only two weeks, as opposed to a longer period required for conventional drugs. The herbs also caused far fewer side effects.

Anxiety pills and their future:
The chemical cousin to Neurontin, Pregabalin, is an anticonvulsant that's in trials. It's also being looked at for social-phobia anxiety disorders. There's another type of drug in development that works on regulating the pathway of the stress hormone cortisol directly. But that's down the line.

Anxiety and non-prescribed remedies:
Too many people self-medicate their anxiety with alcohol or marijuana. While those options might bring acute relief, later on they can lead to a worsening of anxiety symptoms. So, unfortunately, they represent a bad pharmacological choice.

Why take drugs?
Drugs help a great deal to overcome that problems arising out of anxiety. Following are some of the reasons why drugs are advisable.
They help to reduce extreme sadness.
They reduce lack of interest in life.
They help to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder.
They also cure the pain arising out of problems like approaching menopause etc
Thus, prescription drugs are advisable; however one must be aware of its side effects, the most vital of which is addiction.

Types of Depression and Anxiety Disorders

By Pattrick Johnson  An estimated 6 percent of Americans suffer from seasonal affective disorder (SAD), a type of depression, and an additional 14 percent experience a milder form of the disorder known as the winter blues. SAD strikes during the winter months and is associated with reduced exposure to sunlight. People with SAD suffer from irritability, apathy, carbohydrate craving and weight gain, increases in sleep time, and general sadness. Researchers believe that SAD is caused by a malfunction in the hypothalamus, the gland responsible for regulating responses to external stimuli. Stress may also playa role in SAD. Certain factors seem to put people at risk for SAD. Women are four times more likely to suffer from SAD than are men. Although SAD occurs in people of all ages, those between 20 and 40 appear to be most vulnerable. Certain families appear to be at risk. And people living in northern states in the United States are more at risk than are those living in southern states. During the winter, there are fewer hours of sunlight in northern regions than in southern areas. An estimated 10 percent of the population in northern states such as Maine, Minnesota, and Wisconsin experience SAD, whereas fewer than 2 percent of those living in southern states such as Florida and New Mexico suffer from the disorder.

There are some simple but effective therapies for SAD. The most beneficial appears to be light therapy, in which a patient is exposed to lamps that mimic sunlight. After being exposed to this lighting each day, 80 percent of patients experience relief from their symptoms within four days. Other forms of treatment for SAD are diet change(eating more foods high in complex carbohydrates), increased exercise, stress management techniques, sleep restriction(limiting the number of hours slept in a 24-hour period), psychotherapy, and antidepressants.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorders

Approximately 5 million Americans suffer from obsessive-compulsive disorders. An obsessive-compulsive disorder(OCD) is an illness in which people have obsessive thoughts or perform habitual behaviors that they cannot control. People with obsessions have recurring ideas or thoughts that they cannot control. People with compulsions feel forced to engage in a repetitive behavior, almost as if the behavior controls them. Feeling an obsessive need for cleanliness and washing one’s hands 20 times before eating, counting to a certain number while using the toilet, and checking and rechecking all the light switches in the house before leaving or going to bed are examples of compulsive behaviors. OCD may be considered one type of depression.

School Based Mental Health Services Reduce School Violence

By Kathryn Seifert

In a time when resources are scarce and problems are many, professionals are choosing evidence-based practices to improve outcomes related to services. Evidence is emerging that school-based mental health services are an effective and cost efficient way to improve school performance and mental health and reduce behavioral problems.

To assess the effectiveness of school based mental health (SBMH) services to provide these outcomes in students from Pre-K - 12th grades, Robert Schmidt, M.Ed. and Kathryn Seifert, Ph.D. collaborated on the evaluation of outcomes for a SBMH program for a mid-Atlantic rural school district.

The project began in 1999 after a Federal grant was awarded to the school district. The children's scores on the Devereaux, BASC, CARE and several school measures such as absenteeism, disciplinary referrals, and suspensions were measured from the beginning of services and at the beginning and end of each school year.

Youth were referred to the project from teachers, guidance counselors, parents, student self-referrals and other agencies such as the Departments of Social Services and Juvenile Services of which resulted in 1,247 SBMH referrals during a five-year period.

From 1999 to 2004, 36% of these students were referred because of symptoms of depression, 26% because of family problems, and 24% because of behavior problems. There were 84 referrals to the program in 1999, compared to 437 students in 2002 and 239 students in 2003. Peak referral times were consistently observed during the months of October and February. Youth in the transition years of sixth and ninth grades were referred to the program most often. More Caucasian females participated in the project than any other ethnic/gender group. In 2000, 2,132 mental health sessions were provided, in contrast to an amazing 15,763 sessions during the 2003/04 school year.

A group of one hundred thirty-two students who participated in the program showed significantly improved attitudes toward teachers and school, decreased mental health symptoms, and increased self-esteem after one year of services. From the 2001 to the 2002 school year, students participating in SBMH had significantly improved school attendance (from approximately 4600 to 4200 days absent). One hundred seventy-eight students had a significant (49%) decrease in disciplinary referrals and violence related disciplinary referrals from the 2001 to the 2002 school year. One hundred thirty-four participants had a significant decrease (54%) in suspensions from school. Parents of 103 students reported that their children were having significantly fewer problems after receiving services. Ninety-nine youth self-reported significantly improved commitment to school, interpersonal relationships and self-esteem, as well as fewer stress related problems. Two hundred fifty students reported significantly reduced school maladjustment and clinical maladjustment and improved attitudes toward parents and emotional well-being.

This project demonstrated that school based mental health services improved student well-being, behavior and school success, while showing a significant decrease in the initial presenting mental health symptoms, violence and other behavior problems at home and at school. Although these services and study enter into it's sixth year and is on-going, other school-based mental health services must be provided, expanded, and studied. This project provides a framework for improved student health/success and decreased school violence while positively enhancing the community of which we live, work and play.

Medicines and Drugs Used in Major Mental Illnesses Treatment,

Mental illness is one of the most complicated disorders about which very little is known. No one likes to be labelled as mentally sick. In India, mental illness is a stigma, and the relatives of usually try to keep the patient isolated.
Few patients are subjected to medical treatment. In some cases, it is considered that the illness has resulted from am evil spirit having taken posession of the body, and to get rid of it, prayers are offered. Recent findings have shown that there are definite biochemical aberrations in the brain which cause mental illness. There are several drugs have been introduced which can effectively control the symptoms in most cases. These drugs allow a patient to live a fairly normal life and also prevent further deterioration of mental state. Types of Mental Disorders: Depending on the symptoms, mental disorders have been broadly divided into three groups: major mental illnesses (psychosis, schizophrenia, mania); mini mental illness (neurosis, anxiety reaction); and mental depression (affective disorder). Each kind of disease requires a specific type of treatment. Therefore, it is important to recognize the disease. However, in some cases the patient has symptoms of more than one type of disease and such patients pose a different type of problem to the physician. In this chapter we shall consider the drugs used for the treatment of major mental illnesses. The drugs used in the treatment of anxiety reaction and mental depression are described in separate chapters.Several terms such as psychosis, schizophrenia (literally 'split mind') and mania have been used for major mental illnesses. In general, a major mental illness is characterized by such mental symptoms which cannot be reconciled with. The patient may have violent and uncontrollable instances of destructive behaviour; or he may suffer from illusion which is a false perception of reality: for example, a rope lying on the floor may appear to be a crawling snake; or delusion; which is a false sense of interpretation: for example, he may feel that he is a rich person and people around him are trying to conspire to cheat him and drive him to poverty; or hallucination; which is a false perception not accounted for by any external stimulus: for example, a person may imagine he is sitting in a garden full of trees and flowers with a kaleidoscopic play of colours, or walking around a lake, or that he can hear melodious music when none of these really exists. Such symptoms have been reported to be cause by psychomimetic drugs, hallucinogens like LSD, mescaline, and cannabis (bhang, charas or ganja), which have been widely abused by the younger generation. There is a disorganised thinking and abnormal behaviour. The most important negative manifestations include, flattening of emotions, poor verbalization, little interest in surroundings and relationships.

Imitrex and Migraine, By: Samir

IMITREX [Sumatriptan] is indicated in the use acute treatment of migraine.
Migraine: Migraine, the most common cause of headache, afflicts approximately 15% of women and 6% of men. It is a vascular headache, comes in attacks A useful definition of migraine is a benign and recurring syndrome of headache, nausea, vomiting, and/or other symptoms of neurologic dysfunction in varying admixtures. Migraine can often be recognized by its activators (Red wine, menses, hunger, lack of sleep, glare, estrogen, worry, perfumes, let-down periods) and its deactivators (sleep, pregnancy, exhilaration, triptans). Severe headache attacks, regardless of cause, are more likely to be described as throbbing and associated with vomiting and scalp tenderness. Milder headaches tend to be nondescript—tight, band like discomfort often involving the entire head—the profile of tension-type headache.
IMITREX [Sumatriptan] is a specific and selective 5-hydroxytriptamine1-like [5HT 1-like] receptor agonist with little or no effect at a variety of other receptor types. It produces dose related constriction in the cerebral circulation. It does not bind to alpha adrenergic, beta adrenergic, muscarinic, dopaminergic or benzodiazepine receptors
Interest in the role of 5-HT a.k.a. serotonin in migraine has been renewed due to the introduction of the triptan class of anti-migraine drugs. The triptans are designed to stimulate selectively a particular subpopulation of 5-HT receptors. At least 14 specific 5-HT receptors exist in humans. The triptans are potent agonists of 5-HT1B, 5-HT1D, and 5- HT1F receptors and are less potent at 5-HT1A and 5-HT1E receptors. A growing body of data indicates that the anti-migraine efficacy of the triptans relates to their ability to stimulate 5-HT1B receptors, which are located on both blood vessels and nerve terminals. Selective 5-HT1D receptor agonists have, thus far, failed to demonstrate clinical efficacy in migraine. Triptans that are weak 5-HT1F agonists are also effective in migraine; however, only 5-HT1B efficacy is currently thought to be essential for anti migraine efficacy
History: The development of sumatriptan was the first experimentally based approach to identify and develop a novel therapy for migraine. In 1972, Humphrey and colleagues initiated a long term project aimed at identifying novel therapy for migraine. The goal of this project was to develop selective vasoconstrictors of the extracranial circulation. They focused on the identification of 5-HT receptors in the carotid vasculature, on which the theory of action of traditional anti-migraine drugs was based during the 1970s. Sumatriptan, first synthesized in 1984, potently contracted the dog isolated saphenous vein which is believed to contain the novel 5-HT receptor located in the carotid circulation. Sumatriptan was approved by the FDA in 1992. Mechanism of action:
Before the onset of a migraine, the 5-HT/serotonin level in the brain becomes extremely low. Sumatriptan is structurally similar to serotonin, and is a 5-HT agonist, which is one of the receptors to which serotonin binds. The specific receptor subtype it activates is present in the cranial and basilar arteries. Activation of these receptors causes vasoconstriction of those dilated arteries. Sumatriptan increases the 5-HT levels in the brain. Sumatriptan is also shown to decrease the activity of the trigeminal nerve, which probably accounts for sumatriptan's efficacy in treating cluster headaches. The injectable form of the drug has been shown to abort a cluster headache within fifteen minutes in 96% of cases. This type of headache is extremely painful and debilitating. The peak plasma concentration of IMITREX [Sumatriptan] i.e. on subcutaneous injection is approximately 12 mins and its bioavailability is approximately 97%. While on oral administration, the peak plasma concentration is 1 to 2 hours and bioavailability of only 14% to 17%.
Adverse effects and Contraindications:
Rare but serious cardiac effects have been associated with the administration of Sumatriptan, including coronary artery vasospasm, transient myocardial ischemia, atrial and ventricular arrhythmias, and myocardial infarction. Most such events have occurred in patients with risk factors for coronary artery disease. In general, however only minor side effects are seen with sumatriptan in the acute treatment of migraine. After subcutaneous injection of IMITREX [Sumatriptan], a majority of patients report transient mail pain, stinging, or burning sensation at the site of injection. Other side effects are: - Paresthesia - Asthenia and fatigue - Flushing - Feelings of pressure - Tightness - Pain in neck, chest and jaw - Drowsiness - Nausea - Sweating.
IMITREX [Sumatriptan] is contraindicated in patients who have a history of ischemic or vasospastic coronary artery disease, cerebrovascular or peripheral vascular disease, or other significant cardiovascular diseases. This drug is also contraindicated in patients in patients with uncontrolled hypertension and in those patients who are on monoamine oxidase inhibitors. It is not recommended for use in the pediatric age group and should not be used in the pregnant and lactating mothers.
Indication:
IMITREX [Sumatriptan] is effective in the acute treatment of migraine, with or without aura. The treatment should begin as soon as possible after the onset of a migraine attack. Approximately 70% of individuals report significant headache relief from a 6 mg subcutaneous dose of IMITREX [Sumatriptan]. This dose maybe repeated once within a 24-hour period if the headache doesn’t subside after the first dose of sumatriptan. It should not be used concurrently with or within 24 hours of an ergot derivative nor should it be used with another triptan with 24 hours of each other. IMITREX [Sumatriptan] is not useful for prophylaxis of migraine.

Make Out Best Workout Plan For Body Building

By: Nick Clipton

An increasing number of people are taking up bodybuilding these days. World over people have realized the importance of having a fit body and what better way to fitness than through bodybuilding. A good bodybuilding workout plan should incorporate a regimen of exercises, weight training and a diet plan.

Body building is a great sport that allows competitors to use their experiences and knowledge, all while attempting to sculpt the perfect body. However, it is hard for a beginner in the sport of body building to know how to separate all the hype from the truth, in order to avoid wasting time and effort in the gym. If you are not working out properly, or you do not have a workout plan that will "work out" for you, you are only wasting your time and you are on the path towards frustration!

Once you have a bodybuilding workout plan ready, the most difficult part is in sticking to it. There are many who are keen on exercising for a week or two before dropping out. You must remember that bodybuilding is something in which you cannot expect overnight results. You will need to stick to a strict workout plan, for a substantially long period of time. It is the only way in which you can achieve your bodybuilding goals.

You can always devise a bodybuilding workout plan in consultation with a trainer. These professionals will also be able to teach you the proper exercise and weight training techniques. This is an important aspect that should not be neglected since faulty technique can lead to muscle injuries.

Despite one’s body type, there are common techniques to follow when bodybuilding. These are:

1. Keep a training diary so that you can monitor your progress and determine what you should aim for in the future.

2. Pay attention when lifting any kind of weight to avoid injury. Carelessness is probably the foremost cause of injuries in bodybuilding.

3. Choose the types of exercises that can contract as many muscle fibers as possible during one set. This will maximize the effectiveness of the core repetitions which make up most of one’s training.

4. Warm up properly prior to doing any exercise to prevent injury.

5. Don’t change the technique of doing any exercise unless you know what you are doing. Experimenting is another cause of injury.

Typically a bodybuilding workout plan can be divided into, flexibility, cardiovascular and weight training sessions. Flexibility training helps in keeping the muscles limber and relaxed. Cardiovascular training helps in building up stamina and strength. Weight training is the one that helps in muscle building. You must remember that these three types of training are not supplementary but complimentary to each other. You must therefore concentrate on all the three types of training in order to achieve your bodybuilding goals.

Your nutrition should consist of all the essential nutrients that you would need to achieve your bodybuilding goals. All these factors need to be considered before you decide on your workout plan. musclebuildingprograms.com

Dyslexia Awareness Training

Nowadays is vital to know what this thing dyslexia is, its symptoms, types and categories. What is important is the way to cure this disease. You can complete some professional and practical courses to help and support people affected with dyslexia. Good training will be very useful to widen your horizon about this disease, to understand its reasons and aftereffects. The aims are: teaching, supporting and care in order to create confidence in these people. You can answer some significant questions like what dyslexia is, how to define this syndrome and to describe the difficulties as well as what can you do to support individuals. Any course includes lectures as well as some practical activities. After graduating the course everyone awards the Dyslexia Action Certificate of Attendance. If you decide to take a course then you can find it at your school, college or place of work. What a person should know about dyslexia and its treatment.
Dyslexia Training and Treatment.
Let us define some considerable points. In general there is no just one and ultimate treatment for dyslexia due to the fact that there are many different children with their own individualities and characters as well as learning abilities for cognition and obtaining skills. A teacher has to create such an atmosphere and conditions in order to facilitate children cope with the tasks. A good tutor must use some strategies to turn a usual learning into interesting, gripping and easy process of discovering new things.
Dyslexia can be greatly tackled with the suitable training, therapy and equipment. If dialectic disabilities are not cured properly by the age of 12, those children may never obtain a right and positive sense of themselves. It can lead that they may completely fall out of school. Consequently, it is important that dyslectic disabilities are recognized at a very early childhood age and addressed to the doctor. The most efficient and successful treatment for dyslexia is educational one to tutoring one. First of all the teacher should focus on phonetics, especially on phonetic decoding. This practice involves breaking words into separate sounds and then again rearranging these sounds into different words. This method improves phonetic as we as reading decoding skills. Another treatment can be done by formation and developing software and modules skills. Here can help a variety of software available in the market. Also musical therapy or musical treatment can help in remedying dyslexia. In some severe cases medication is prescribed by the doctor. Here a piece of advice on how to tackle with the dyslexia:
1) measures should be take by parents, teachers and professionals,
2) it is very good to share experience among different countries and schools,
3) it is exceptionally vital a dyslexia child being closely cooperated and associated with healthy children,
4) dialectics require assistance and guidance as well as a lot of psychological attention,
5) need to concentrate on structured, organised, systematic and collective work and teaching,
6) it is necessary to supply a child with some extra reading.

All these factors will help a child to fight against dyslexia and overcome it. Many charitable organizations around the world support and lend a helping hand in struggling dyslexia by subsidy, equipment and training. Many efforts and a lot of research have been done internationally on this issue. International Dyslexia Association is also in the front position of dyslexia training and treatment.

Beware of 7 Attitudes That Lead to Depression

Kevin Hensey

Are you feeling down? Do feel a sense of hopelessness in your life? Do you feel depressed?

Depressive moods result from engaging in negative thoughts. Negative thoughts are triggered and reinforced by certain attitudes. Get to know what these attitudes are and find out how to curb them.

Extreme perfectionism. Some people are inclined to be perfectionists. Actually, there is nothing wrong in aiming for perfection. It becomes wrong when you feel miserable and disgusted with yourself if things didn't turn out as planned. This feeling of misery is coupled with a sense of guilt. However, why must you feel bad every time you fall short of perfection? Remember, nobody is perfect.

Pessimism. Think of it this way: Nobody stays at the bottom all the time. Sometimes, you may be up, other times you are at the bottom. They say that life is like a wheel: it turns. Become an optimist and believe that every thing happens for a reason and that life can change for the better. It always does.

Desire for control. Realize that there are things you can change and there are things you cannot. Look at life on the positive side and try to be the best you can. Instead of trying to gain control over uncontrollable circumstances (which is actually impossible in the first place), work on controlling your response to changes in your life.

Tendency to take on the blame. When somebody blames you for his mistakes or faults, do you feel bad about yourself? Even if you know you are innocent, do you take it personally? If you answered yes, you have to change this mentality.

Refuse to be disturbed emotionally. Shield yourself from remarks and accusations that are untrue. Assess the person making the accusation and the blame. He may be doing it just to save his skin and is only making you as a scapegoat. Ignore him and move into something worth your time.

Laziness. In business, there is such a thing called "due diligence." Sometimes people are too lazy to check and double check information that they come up with wrong decisions that can severely affect their reputation, current position, or line of work.

Gather enough information first, segregate which are facts and which are not; thereafter, you can come up with a better conclusion. Take the extra effort and do not be lazy.

Inability to accept and give appreciation. You praise a lady for her nice clothes and she responds, "Oh, this is an old dress handed down to me by my sister!" Learn to graciously give and accept praises. Allow yourself to enjoy the benefits of being appreciated. Learn to express gratitude.

Distrust. This includes the inability to establish meaningful relationships with other people. It is difficult to establish friendship if you distrust majority of the people around you. Friends are extremely valuable in life. Having friends around you during bouts of depression can help ease the feeling.

There you have it - the 7 attitudes that fuel despair and misery. Be on guard against these attitudes and protect yourself from depression.

Essential Meditation: Insight or Energy?

There are thousands of different meditation traditions across the world. There are likely hundreds of thousands of meditation techniques. For the purposes of this article though, we will over-simplify and break these techniques down into two general categories: energy and insight.

Insight meditation teaches students to train their awareness, direct it skillfully, and to learn to accept an experience as it is... to allow whatever thoughts or feelings arise to flow naturally without interference. The primary skills of insight meditation are awareness and acceptance.

Insight meditation often trains to students to pick a single focus for a given meditation. When the focus begins to drift, the student gently brings it back to the focus of meditation. Accepting whatever arises in consciousness (or in life) develops deep peacefulness. Growing more and more aware of the specifics of our experience allows us to deeply change the nature of our understanding (insight), and we can begin to be more selective about what we bring into our lives!

Energy meditation teaches students to notice and circulate energy in the body, to notice how experience and perception changes with the location of the energy. Some of the most popular systems of energy meditation are the meridian system of qigong and the chakra system of Yoga.

With energy meditations, a student will often use a breathing method that is outside of their normal pattern of breath. Then the student will pay attention to whatever feelings arise in the body. Once an awareness of the feelings develops, the can then be directed as the practitioner sees fit. This energy can be directed into chakras, or through the meridians, into the aura, etc. Many powerful effects grow from developing control over the energy fields in and around the body.

Even these two very generalized varieties of meditation cross over quite a bit. In order to pay attention to energy in the body, the meditator has to develop a somewhat skillful level of awareness. Before the energy can be effectively circulated, it must be accepted and allowed to flow. On the other hand, the insight meditator is bound to have experiences of energy flow in the body, whether this is the object of meditation or not. The very awareness and acceptance the insight meditator is developing will allow energy to flow more freely.

In the long run, the reported benefits of these two styles of meditation are very similar. Meditators who open all the chakras usually report an experience of transcendence, oneness, and/or the inter-connectedness of all things. Long term insight meditators typically report similar experiences.

With either method, powerful meditative experiences can translate into transcendent day-to-day experiences. This is not hard to do with either method of meditation. When you are completing a session, allow the meditative state to linger as you get up and begin to go about other activities. Once you are proficient with them, you can also practice some of your meditation techniques with open eyes while you are doing other activities during the day (please use common sense: don't do this while driving or operating heavy equipment).

Ultimately, there is little if any qualitative difference between these two approaches. The most important thing to do is practice. Get started today! If you already meditate, choose to take it a little bit further today. Whether you prefer insight or energy meditation, there are powerful benefits to come for those who keep up the practice!

Have you noticed anything particular triggering your headaches?

Help Your Doctor Help You With Your Headache.

Author: David Wilding

Benign (harmless) headaches can sometimes be just as severe as those from a more sinister cause. The first concern of the Doctor is to make sure what is causing your headache. To do this, he relys on the person's descriptions of the symptoms, any pattern that the headaches may follow and any possible triggers.

Every single year, almost 75% of American suffer with headaches. They are often scared that they may have a brain tumor or a stroke.

Benign (harmless) headaches can sometimes be just as severe as those from a more sinister cause. The first concern of the Doctor is to make sure what is causing your headache. To do this, he relys on the person's descriptions of the symptoms, any pattern that the headaches may follow and any possible triggers.

So what sort of things will your Doctor be looking at? If you are planning to visit your Doctor because of headaches, this list will be a useful check point for you. Having the answers to these questions will help both you and your Doctor.

How long have these headaches been going on?

As a general rule, the longer you have been suffering a similar sort of headache – the more likely it is to be harmless (however debilitating or painful). Sufferers with migraine will often have started having them as a child, teen or young adult. Migraine may finish when a woman begins her menopause – but they can also start at that time, too. Tension headaches can start at any time.

Does anyone else in your family suffer with headaches? Migraines can often run in families but cluster headaches don’t.

How frequently do you suffer with these headaches?

Your doctor will want to you to tell him how many times a day, month or year you get headaches. This will help to decide whether the treatment should be:

Prophylactic (preventing the headaches from starting)

Abortive (trying to stop a headache attack that is already happening)

Has the pattern of your headaches changed – or are you getting them more often?

Many people struggle on with headaches for months or even years. What finally brings them to the Doctor is a change in that pattern or the headaches becoming more severe. The Doctor will want to know what is causing your headache and check out the things that might be making it worse.

When you have a headache, where is the pain located?

The location will help your Doctor to diagnose what type your headache is. For instance:

Migraine: anywhere in the head but most common in the temple area.

Tension headaches: Felt on one or both sides. May be in the front. Commonly most intense in the neck, shoulder and back of the head.

Cluster headaches: always on one side – usually around the eye.

Try and describe the pain for me?

Again, this will help with the diagnosis:

Migraine: commonly throbbing or pulsating

Tension headache: dull, dragging ache – often tight band

Cluster headaches: Deep and intensely painful as if something sharp and hot is being pushed into the eye

Do you have any other symptoms with the headache?

Migraine: losing appetite, feeling sick, being sick, dislike of light and/ or noise

Tension headaches: stiff or sore neck, grinding teeth at night, clenched jaw

Cluster headaches: watering eye, blocked nose

How long does the headache last?

·

Migraine: commonly less than 24 hours. Or may be as short as 20 minutes or go on for weeks – although less common. Usually a pain-free period between migraines.

Tension headache: Can last for days, weeks and rarely, years.

Cluster headache: Very severe, but short. Usually 30-90 minutes, repeated 2-6 times during a ‘bout’

Do your headaches always seem to be at a particular time?

Migraine: The sufferer often wakes up with one. May happen more at weekends. Women with menstrual migraine may have them a few days before their period.

Tension headaches: Commonly during stressful times.

Cluster headaches: Often wake the person from a deep sleep at night.

Have you or your family noticed your behavior or mood changing because of the headaches?

Migraine: Person can become withdrawn, easily irritated and want to be on their own.

Tension headaches: Happy to receive care and attention.

Cluster headaches: The person may pace up and down, hold their head or rock during an attack.

Headache sufferers are at a higher risk of depression due to their condition (or sometimes the depression causes the condition).

Signs of depression that the Doctor is looking for are:

Poor sleeping – either too much or too little

Feeling tired all the time

Loss of appetite

Loss of interest in sex

Do you get any warning signs that a headache is going to start?

15% of all migraine sufferers may get a warning in the form of an ‘aura’. This is often seeing dazzling lights or zig-zag lines.

Numbness and/or noticing a distinctive odor are also auras.

If you have an aura that carries on after your headache has finished, make sure you tell the Doctor.

Headaches and migraines can have many triggers. If you know what yours are, that’s fine. If not, it may help to keep a headache diary – which includes what you have eaten and done during that day. This will help the Doctor to find out what is causing your headache and what type it is.

Knowing the answers to these questions will help your doctor determine the typr of headasche you have and the best way to combat the pain.

Brainwave Entrainment” Can Help You Dramatically Improve Your Mental Abilities!

Brainwave Entrainment” Can Help You Dramatically Improve Your Mental Abilities!

by: Sonika Gandotra

I am a great fan of Stephen Pierce and recently I came across his website in which he talked about Brainwave Entertainment. I think it will be worth while to disseminate such a crucial piece of information with people who are interested in good health.

I have just taken the few facts from this website in this article for everybody,s benefit:

Recently, professionals in the areas of psychology, neurology, medical health and self-help have begun utilizing the power of brainwave entrainment in their work with patients.

What is brainwave entrainment? It is a relatively young but rapidly growing field that involves the study of how altering brainwaves naturally can allow people to easily enter states of increased intelligence, creativity, relaxation, pure energy and more!

Here’s the science behind this incredible breakthrough: The brain is made up of billions of brain cells called neurons, which communicate with each other using electrical signals.

All of these neurons sending signals at once produce a large amount of electrical activity commonly called a Brainwave pattern, because of its “wave” or cyclic-like nature.

Researchers and scientists have found that different bands of brainwaves are associated with different mental states. For instance, the brainwaves of a sleeping person are much different than the brainwaves of an individual who is wide awake.

Years of research has shown that brainwaves not only provide insight into an individual’s mind and body, but they can be stimulated to actually change that person’s current state.

By causing the brain to produce or decrease specific types of brainwave frequencies, it is possible to bring about a large variety of mental states and emotional reactions.

How does this work? “Entrainment” is a principle in physics, where two cycles synchronize naturally with each other in order to work more efficiently. Entrainment is applied to chemistry, astronomy, electrical systems and much more – but can also be applied to the brain.

When the brain is provided with a stimulus, through the ears, eyes or other senses, it emits an electrical charge in response. This is called a Cortical Evoked Response. These electrical responses travel throughout the brain to become what an individual sees and hears.

When the brain is given a consistent, repeating stimulus, such as drum beats or flashes of light, the brain responds by synchronizing, or entraining, its electric cycles to the external rhythm. This is commonly called the Frequency Following Response (or FFR), and it can be used to effectively alter the brainwave pattern of the audience.

This I personally realised after listening to the scientifically proven Beta Brainwave Entertainment to understand that we have an all access pass to the high performance peak state that our world’s greatest achievers know intimately.

The EEG visual shown at the beginning of this article was taken while observing the effects of Beta Brainwave Entertainment on an independent listener. This visual reading not only proves that Beta Brainwave Entertainment works, but powerfully demonstrates how quickly your mind can be optimized and your cerebral functioning accelerated.

The Baseline (left-side) illustrates the listener’s brainwave activity prior to listening to Brainwaves. The Beta Increase (right-side) shows the considerable increase in beta activity after just 20 minutes of listening to Beta waves.

Brainwave research on cognitive performance has pointed to the mid Beta brainwave frequencies as the zone to create a super focus mental state, intellectual endurance, and optimize your brain to handle intensive task with high levels of mental stamina.

As you listen to your brainwaves will be entrained into the Beta brainwave zone and have you mentally fine tuned for success.

If you have ever dreamed of realizing your full potential and receiving all the benefits that will help you to quickly and easily unleash your mental powers and achieve your dreams. Listen to this audio and you will:

Sharpen your mental focus, attention, and concentration
Enhance your thinking speed and clarity
Improve your ability to remember and recall information
Increase your mental energy and alertness
And much, much more

you can be experiencing acute concentration, accelerated cognition and amazing mental states that the most focused and zoned achievers on the planet know.

Think of the tremendous impact this could have on your life! and improving your mental efficiency could:
Help you excel in your career
Improve the quality of your life
Improve your marriage
Make you more content
Make you more confident
And much, much more!

Alzheimer’s Disease and Brain Function – 3 Things You Should Know

Alzheimer’s Disease and Brain Function – 3 Things You Should Know by Susan Nickerson

Alzheimer’s disease is a debilitating disorder affecting large numbers of our aging population. Alarmingly, the incidence of Alzheimer’s is on the rise.

There are over 5 million Americans suffering from Alzheimer’s already, and that figure will most likely increase drastically over the next 10 years as the baby boomer generation approaches their 60’s and 70’s.

So what exactly is the relationship between Alzheimer’s disease and brain function? Are there steps you can take to help maintain your brain function as you age to prevent the onset of this disorder?

Dr. Dharma Singh Khalsa, President and Medical Director of the Alzheimer’s Research and Prevention Foundation (ARPF), believes there are. He has advocated a series of healthy lifestyle changes which should help you maintain your mental abilities as you get older.

The following three areas are part of Dr. Khalsa’s Alzheimer’s prevention plan promoted by the ARPF. By adhering to them, you will have a greater chance at maintaining proper brain function into your later years.

1. Several studies have indicated that a diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants will help prevent the mental decline brought on by Alzheimer’s.

Omega-3 fatty acids have been found to help repair the synapses in your brain damaged by the formation of plaques and tangles, which mark the brains of Alzheimer’s patients. Antioxidants prevent the production of free radicals in your body, which when present in excess, can kill your brain cells.

Omega-3 fatty acids can be found in most seafood, especially salmon, trout, and albacore tuna, as well as in certain green leafy vegetables such as spinach.

Foods rich in vitamins C and E are also an excellent source of antioxidants. Blueberries, grapes, cranberries, papaya, apples, and green leafy vegetables will provide you with plenty of antioxidants in your diet.

2. Recent research has identified a strong link between stress and the development of Alzheimer’s disease later in life.

Stress hormones have also been found to speed up the production of plaques and tangles in your brain. Studies have found that people prone to stress were twice as likely to develop Alzheimer’s as their lower stressed counterparts.

It is important to employ stress management techniques in your life. Some of the most effective techniques include mind-body exercises, meditation, hypnosis, deep breathing, massage, and yoga.

3. Both physical and mental exercise have been found to increase brain function. It is essential that you regularly engage in both physical and mental activities so that you keep your mind sharp.

Physical exercise will help ensure that proper levels of oxygen reach your brain. Like any other muscle in your body, your brain needs sufficient levels of oxygen to function properly.

Good methods of physical exercise include brisk walking, jogging, participation in sports, dance classes, and hiking.

There is also growing evidence that people who challenge their mind on a regular basis maintain higher levels of brain function. Your brain is a muscle. If you don’t use it frequently, it will atrophy. This will make you more susceptible to Alzheimer’s disease.

Reading, writing, learning a new activity, and crossword puzzles are all good mental activities to keep your brain sharp. And of course, mind-body exercises work well here as well.

By paying close attention to these three areas in your life, prevention of Alzheimer’s disease and brain function should continue smoothly well into old age.

The Natural Methods To Deal With Your Anxiety

The Natural Methods To Deal With Your Anxiety

The first effort you need to do if you want to eliminate your anxiety reactions effectively is to believe in the fact that anxiety attacks is just a series of reactions and emotions. Be sure to know that there is no need to be scared while you are getting panic attacks. Just know that anxiety reactions is only uncomfortable and does not make any real harm to you.

If you develop this mentality this attitude will allow your body to stop anxiety attacks consciously and after that subconsciously.

One of the most effective routines I have learned and put into use to deal with my panic attacks is the little-known method. By breathing using my method when you are experiencing nervousness attacks will allow your body to slowly but surely relax and consequently the panic attacks attacks will stop. I will teach you how to get rid of nervousness by using the breathing method I've created below.

Before anything else, when you are having panic attacks attacks, you have to inhale as deep as you can. Then hold your breath for as long as 5 to 12 seconds and exhale slowly but surely. By following this method will help a lot in eliminating your nervousness.

Stopping anxiety with pills does not work that well. In most instances, you need to take the tablets in higher doses than your current doses of anxiety drugs in the future to stop the anxiety reactions that you have. Anxiety pills only contain the reactions, they are not the best solutions to deal with anxiety. In Russia, a lot of the patients do not rely on pills to cure anxiety. Instead, the doctors prefer them to concentrate on the mindset and lifestyle first. Without any medication, most of the anxiety patients are able to cure anxiety.

With that being said, I hope you can get rid of the reliance to tablets when it comes to coping with anxiety. This might sound like an uphill task in the early period of time, but after you see a huge improvement in your anxiety conditions by using some natural methods to cure anxiety, you will be more convinced to drop the medications.

Stress is one of the major triggering causes to anxiety disorders. So it's a very good advice for you to start reducing with stress first. By getting rid of stress, the anxiety attacks disorders will take place less and before long you are already effectively maintaining your anxiety disorders without the use of any medications!

There are a lot of tactics to lessen the stress you've been collecting. You can reduce and get rid of your worries by just taking up some interesting hobbies. It doesn't have to be physical, although physical orientated activities will give better results for anxiety conditions patients. For me the best hobbies are basketball, football, martial arts and jogging. Now pick yours!

A Review Of Prozac for Bipolar Disorder, Bulimia, and Anxiety

Prozac is preferred for treatment of diseases like anxiety, bipolar disorder and bulimia. Since it restores and maintains the level of serotonin in out brain, it is seen as really influential in recovery. Mood Serotonin levels are responsible for mood stability, depressive states, and control of anxiety, fears, or phobias.

Bipolar disorder or manic depression, is a mental illness that is caused by a combination of biological, neurological, emotional, and situational factors. The real causes of bipolar disorder have still not been discovered. However, one thing is sure that imbalances in the neurotransmitters of the brain, such as serotonin, are at fault for the predisposition of bipolar disorder in quite a few cases.

Bulimia is an eating disorder in which the patient eats excessively then purges themselves of the food they have eaten through either vomiting or induced bowel movements. Psychological and emotional reasons are responsible for this malady. The emotional factors relating to bulimia are very similar if not identical to factors involved with depression and low self worth issues, which are connected to serotonin levels in the brain.

Medical research suggests that wild variation in brain chemistry is the main cause of Anxiety disorder. Anxiety can be described as the intense somewhat debilitating feeling that something horrible is going to happen. Almost each one of us gets anxious at some time or the other, but typically the normal person has a logical reason to feel anxious. With anxiety disorders, the reason for the anxiety may not be known, or it may not be logical if it is known.

As mentioned earlier,Prozac is an effective treatment for bipolar disorder, bulimia, and anxiety because it works on the serotonin levels in the brain. In bipolar patients, it is often prescribed in conjunction with other medications. Prozac is an effective treatment for depression, but may cause manic episodes to worsen. For this reason, Prozac is generally prescribed along with an anti-psychotic drug that helps tone down manic episodes. Therapy sessions or counseling is also generally a part of treatment.

In bulimia patients, Prozac is often the only prescription given. However, it is combined with treatment of symptoms via counseling and therapy. The idea behind this counseling is to identify why the patient has developed a sense of self-worth, and to allow the patient to learn that what they perceive is not necessarily reality. This is very helpful in bulimia patients who binge and purge as a result of how they perceive their bodies.

Anxiety patients are often prescribed Prozac with great success. However, you may still need to offer counselling. In therapy sessions, patients may learn techniques to control their anxiety by way of logical understanding of situations that may not at first appear rational. For example, if the subject is restless about a cigarette burning in an ashtray, they can develop method to teach their mind to rationalize the event and accept that there is no real danger of fire, and so no need to get anxious. These techniques are very successful in conjunction with Prozac for treating anxiety.

In short, Prozac corrects with telling effect, many mental disorders. Along with Lithium, it it is found to be a wonder remedy, assisting patients gain stability and normal lives. You should understand various bipolar disorder symptoms treatments first before weighing your bipolar disorder treatment options.

Things to consider before becomming a parent?

Some will claim that the first two or three years of parenting can be the most demanding and difficult time out of all the stages; others will claim that the teenage years are by far the more difficult to deal with. Both are right in that all families are different and have their own unique problems. Some families will find the teenage years the easier as their children become more mature, while others encounter nothing but problems. It all depends on how the parents raise their children and how close their family unit is. The first few years of parenting are enjoyable for most, without doubt, but it can also be a trying time, especially for people who are on their first child and are going through it for the first time.

How much trouble can a baby under three years be? They can be no trouble, but then they can seem like a lot of trouble. It all depends on the mood, the circumstance and whether the baby was planned for or not. All of these can have an impact on whether the child is seen as an added complication or not. Whatever the circumstance, most made the choice at some point to have the child and few regret it. For about the first three years of its life, the child is completely dependent on its parents and requires a lot of attention, especially from the mother because she is often the primary caregiver. It can be both exhausting and rewarding. It can be exhausting in that the child has no regular sleep or eating patterns, can sometimes seem like it is always crying and finding a babysitter for the first few weeks is not in question as it needs its mother the most at that time. Seeing the child grow and develop; taking its first few steps, saying its first word and becoming a little more independent can make it all worth it for the parents.

People thinking about becoming parents will often focus more on the good things about it and forget about considering the fact that it can be a strain on the marital relationship, especially if they are not prepared for it. A couple has to ensure they are ready to take on the responsibility before making the decision, because not being ready could lead to many complications in the near and far future. This is why it is often recommended that parents who are seriously considering a child should consider online therapy. An online therapist and an online counselor are available for anyone who is looking for answers, suggestions and advice. The online therapist can discuss the reality of parenting with the couple and can make it all clear in an impartial way so that the parents are aware of the choice they are considering.

Communication through online counseling in regards to parenting can help in that the online therapist can help the couple decide whether or not they are really prepared to become parents; some will be ready, but others might not be ready. When having a child, it is always better for the parents and their relationship to be prepared for the added responsibility and extreme change to their life. One must also remember the possible child in this. Whether a couple is ready or not will have a direct impact on how the child is raised, as well as how they develop mentally. Female Masturbation - Excessive Indulgence and How to Contain the Act

Admittance by most females to the act of Female masturbation would not be accomplished yet, but the likes of Mother Teresa, famous Prime Ministers like Golda Meier, Margaret Thatcher, Srimavo Bandaranaike and Indira Gandhi are some of the established and accomplished leaders of the world who whenever felt the urge channelised it to more creative paths. Female Masturbation - Excessive Indulgence and How to Contain the Act

Female masturbation as the word denotes defines the act of Female masturbation in itself. Is the act of Female masturbation merely a Channel for satisfying the inherent sexual urges that exists within every female once she gains puberty! No... The act of Female masturbation is inherent in every female as was destined by God the Almighty.

Here we need to discuss why the need for Female masturbation at all! Why this act (of female masturbation) was created by God the Almighty... can we not do without! Are there females who do not feel the urge at all in their lifetime? No, it is never so! Every female the moment she attains puberty develops this urge inherently come whatever may! Why so?

If we try to understand the femininity as was created by God the Almighty we shall arrive at a conclusion that unless there is a Channel for dissipating the excess energies preserved in an individual... there is always a possibility that the individual self would find unhealthy means of gratification. The Channel of Female masturbation was built by God in the similar manner as we have a pressure release valve in a pressure cooker.

Even the most accomplished females existing on Mother Earth have at any stage indulged in female masturbation. One may admit or not because of the nature of feminine gender (contrary to what the famous philosopher and psychologist Bertrand Russell acknowledged in his autobiography that he was a genius and to that matter an expert in the act of male masturbation). Admittance or a denial but the truthful facts can never be denied.

Yes! It is a fact that the most accomplished females existing on Mother Earth were able to transmute this potential source of energy into more creative channels. And it is these accomplishments which every female must indulge in. Why indulge in Female masturbation when one can easily transmute this most potential source of energy into creative activity that leads one to gaining fame in the field of our liking.

Admittance by most females to the act of Female masturbation would not be accomplished yet, but the likes of Mother Teresa, famous Prime Ministers like Golda Meier, Margaret Thatcher, Romano Bandaranaike and Indira Gandhi are some of the established and accomplished leaders of the world who whenever felt the urge channelised it to more creative paths.

Why indulge in the act of Female masturbation and destroy our future... Do we realize that this potential source of energy given to every female every month had a very potential reason for it to be given by God? Unless and until this excessive dose of energy which is available to every female every month was provided by God... the journey as a manifested human being would not have been possible for a female.

The rigors of the day-to-day working require a massive dose of energy and it is not within the powers of a female to produce this energy on its own. God the Almighty graced all females with this bountiful source of energy available to every woman every month. Knowing well that it may not be possible for every female to channelise this energy into creative forms God had to create another source to Channel out the excess energy... and hence the act of female masturbation.

Female masturbation is not an act to be ashamed of but why Channel out this most creative energy by indulging in female masturbation. Why not transmute it into more creative forms of energy existing on Mother Earth. It is an established fact that if from the times a woman gains puberty... she does not indulge in the act of Female masturbation then this woman shall make her mark in the world with golden letters.

It is only the act of transmuting the monthly source of energy into more creative uses by which one can put an end to the act of female masturbation. And to be able to transmute this monthly source of energy into more creative uses is not that difficult a task as it may be presumed to be. One only needs to establish at an early age a goal of life. And if we are to achieve this goal of life within the physical lifetime of 70 to 80 years then where is the time to indulge in the act of female masturbation.

We must always remember that we are not alone in the act of female masturbation. Many rather most indulge in this act of Female masturbation but may not be able to freely admit it. Indulgence in the act of Female masturbation is not harmful but it is also not creative. Why not pray to God the Almighty to help us transmute the potential energy given to every female every month. And it is this act of non-indulgence in Female masturbation that shall win us the day.

We also need to remember that non-indulgence on female masturbation shall increase the resistance of the body to such levels that no disease can overtake us. Free of all diseases for ever one basks in the glory of non-indulgence in female masturbation. It need not be emphasized that non-indulgence in female masturbation shall lead one to unfettered heights in leadership and accomplishments in life.

Depression And Anxiety Are Facets Of The Same Illness

Millions of Americans every year suffer from depression. Millions more suffer from some form of anxiety disorder. Studies have shown that the two disorders coexist more often than not. Between 60 and 70% of all people who suffer from clinical depression also suffer from anxiety.

About half of all people diagnosed with this disorders also suffer from depression. Depression and anxiety overlap so much that increasingly, clinical psychologists and researchers see anxiety and depression as facets of the same illness.

Most people have feelings of sadness at some point in their lives. The loss of a job, death of a loved one, or other disappointments, causes many of the symptoms of depression. Similarly, most people experience the latter at some point in their lives when confronted with stressful situations. These feelings are normal, up to a point.

When feelings of overwhelming sadness or hopelessness, accompanied by fatigue, and changes of appetite and sleep patterns persist for more than a few weeks, the person may be diagnosed with clinical depression. When feelings of anxiety are out of proportion to the stresses being experienced, or a person has panic attacks several times over a period of weeks, they may be suffering from an anxiety disorder. Anxiety and depression are so often intertwined that one must be treated before the other can be dealt with.

Just as there is a lot of overlap between depression and anxiety, there is also a lot of overlap in treatment for the two disorders. Anxiety disorders are often treated with antidepressant medications. Some forms of psychotherapy, especially cognitive and behavioral therapy, have been very successful in treating both conditions.

At times, it may be necessary to treat the depression first. In one form of therapy, called exposure therapy, the patient is exposed to gradually increasing stress factors to help them learn to cope with anxiety. Depression can drain a person of energy and leave them unable to cooperate, so sometimes it must be dealt with first for the anxiety therapy to be effective.

Sometimes, a patient's depression must be treated before the disorder of the other condition can be dealt with. Other times, it may work the other way around. Anxiety usually presents itself at an earlier age than depression, typically during childhood or adolescence.

In these cases, successful treatment of the latter may prevent depression from developing when the patient reaches adulthood. Depression and anxiety are such frequent fellow travelers that often, successful treatment of one often includes treating the other.
